Accessing full text from remote locations
Most important to you is that for off
site access, you have to log in to the VPN. This lets you
search databases and display fulltext ejournals.
- Start at https://sslvpn.pitt.edu
- Log
in with your PITT email name and password
- Wait for Juniper
Software to load and
- Select PITT Digital Library
- You are now on the homepage
If you have any questions about the VPN, contact Elizabeth
Mahoney at etm@pitt.edu.
Getting journals and books from the library
FIRST, LOG IN VIA THE VPN https://sslvpn.pitt.edu
LOCATING JOURNAL ARTICLES
A. You can click the Ejournals link and if the journal is
available you'll see a link to full text.
B. You can click the Databases A-Z list and search in databases
like Library Literature and Information Science or Academic
Search Premier. Once you find articles of interest, fulltext
availability will be noted within your search results.
C. You can search in PITTCat and if you find that there is
a journal in STORAGE, you can request that using the REQUEST
form you see in PITTCAT.
D. If you find a journal is ON CAMPUS, you can request the
article using this interlibrary loan request form.
http://www.library.pitt.edu/services/borrowing/form_journal.html
Please note that you are a FAST TRACK student.
E. IF WE DON'T OWN THE JOURNAL ARTICLE - you can use this
same webform to request an article from another library.
In the case of C, D and E - we will photocopy and create
a PDF. You'll be notified about how to "pick it up" when
the article becomes available electronically.
LOCATING BOOKS
A. If you search in PITTCat and see that PITT owns a book
(on campus or in STORAGE), we will send it to you. Fill out
the Interlibrary Loan request form for BOOKS, http://www.library.pitt.edu/services/borrowing/form_books.html
Please note that you are a FAST TRACK student.
B. WHAT WE CAN'T DO - if you find that you need a book that
PITT does not own, we can't get that for you via Interlibrary
Loan. Your best option for these is to ask you local library
if you can establish borrowing privileges.
If you have any questions, contact Elizabeth Mahoney at etm@pitt.edu You
can also write to Pat Duff, the Coordinator of Interlibrary
Loan, at pduff@pitt.edu.
** Please note that SOMETIMES the storage request feature
does not work correctly and you get an error message. If
this occurs, make an email request via Askalibrarian@pitt.edu.
